Diesel-dependent Nigeria looks up to the sun

Nigeria’s weak power infrastructure has resulted in millions of households and businesses relying on diesel powered generators as their primary source of energy. Improvements to the installed generation capacity of the national grid are not expected in the near future- creating an opportunity for providers of alternative, reliable sources of power. Rensource, a Nigerian based start-up company, is poised to close the energy gap by providing solar energy to Nigerian households using a unique business model that promotes affordability. Rensource plans to reach 600,000 homes in its first phase of implementation and has raised capital from a variety of sources, including the Adam Smith International implemented SolarNigeria Programme funded by UK Aid.
