Strengthening economic management
Service type: Conflict resolution / Post-conflict reconstruction
Region: South Asia
Country: AfghanistanIn the immediate aftermath of the fall of the Taliban ASI carried out a multi-year project to build the capacity of the Afghan Ministry of Finance and Central Bank to oversee economic reconstruction. This involved technical assistance on a range of economic management issues. We supervised the evolution of the financial sector and reviewed the investment code to reduce discretionary powers. We also designed a framework for privatising state-owned enterprises and disposal of non-trading entities and assets; and introduced international accounting standards.
