ASI completed a comprehensive report on the practical issues and recommended procedure for privatisation of Rastriya Beema Sansthan (RBS). This included a review of the regulatory framework for insurance. At the time of preparation of the report, there was no real competition for RBS in the market and hence it was felt that the climate was not right for its privatisation. The report recommended the separation of the company’s general business from its life insurance business and the company is awaiting privatisation.
