Following a competitive international tender, Adam Smith International (ASI) has recently been accredited as a validator by the International Secretariat of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). This builds on our growing portfolio of projects in the minerals and hydrocarbons sectors around the world. The EITI promotes sustainable use of natural resources wealth as an engine of economic growth, contributing to economic development and poverty reduction, underlining the importance of transparency by governments and companies in the extractive industries to enhance financial management and accountability. Only by adhering to principles of good governance and transparent natural resource management can governments ensure that natural resource exploitation will generate revenues to foster growth and reduce poverty to the benefit of all. Verification and full publication of company payments and government revenues from oil, gas and mining are a key step in ensuring good governance and effective natural resource management. ASI is delighted to be a participant in EITI's quality assurance mechanism of validation and to promote dialogue while building capacity in EITI member countries (http://eitransparency.org/validation).
