Creation of Department of Parliamentary Affairs

Country: Zimbabwe

As part of our project to support the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) we have worked to define the role of the executive vis-a-vis parliament and have established a Department of Parliamentary Affairs (DPA) in the OPM.  This department has a secretariat and follow up function and seeks to co-ordinate between the Presidency, the OPM and the legislature.   ASI has worked to build capacity and draft supporting legislation and procedures to support the DPA and to establish its role.  We have advised on due process, engaged with the judiciary and sought to bring relevant best practice to bear on this area.
