Defeating strong competition ASI's Strengthening National and Provincial Tax Administration in Afghanistan project won the prestigious British Expertise Major Consultancy Project of the Year Award. ASI's project manager Paul Davies collected the award on behalf of the team from HRH the Duke of Gloucester.

ASI's DFID-financed Afghan tax project has achieved considerable success in supporting Afghan tax reforms and revenue growth.

Despite deteriorating security, major increases in revenue collection have been achieved, with all targets being exceeded. Revenue has more than tripled in the last 5 years.

A new tax policy has been put in place, a modern tax law passed, tax administration staff recruited and trained, and Large and Medium Taxpayer Offices established.

By helping the Afghan Government increase substantially the revenue it raises the project is contributing considerably to both creating a viable Afghan state and the conditions in which the international community can greatly reduce its involvement.

Also at the award ceremony ASI's John Moore received a commendation in the Young Consultant of the Year category.
